RE: Mosquito repellent for puppy
For fly spray to use on horses, we use a mixture of water, white vinegar, blue Dawn dish soap (has to be blue for some reason), and Avon Skin So Soft. In a spray bottle, say the average size about 12" tall or so, put in about 1" of blue Dawn, 1" of vinegar, 1" of Skin So Soft, and fill the rest with water. Works good with a very light mist. Would work on dogs too, I would think. I would avoid facial area. We cover horses eyes and nose when spraying.
Another use -- same ingredients, excluding Skin So Soft. Wet dogs coats and soap them with this. If any fleas are present, they die instantly. Then soap again with regularly used dog shampoo.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}
I, too, have known this kind of pain. It is not easy to deal with. It will be difficult to try to prepare for that day, when you really probably won't be prepared for it anyway when it comes. So, my hope is that you (everyone) take one day at a time, enjoying each moment. And, when the time comes, I hope that comfort can be found in the many, many pleasant memories that have been made.
You are in my thoughts.

NASA pix
I received this in an email today. I don't know if the pictures are authentic or not. I didn't see anything on Snopes, but then I didn't look too hard either. Whether they are authentic or not, I think the images are pretty neat.

RE: Stolen license plate rant
I don't know what other states' requirements are, but in Kansas it would be recommended to report the plate/decal lost or stolen with law enforcement. They would enter it as such in NCIC. That way should something would happen and that plate be associated, it would be noted as lost/stolen when law enforcement ran the plate. In fact, the report would have to be made before a replacement plate/decal would be issued.
Something for you to consider...

RE: Smores'
Grand daughter just left me know that smores are better if you use a reeses peanut butter cup instead of the hersey bar. Just use the graham cracker, toasted marshmellow and then the peanut butter cup. Sounds good. I like to use club crackers instead of graham crackers. Takes the too sweet taste away. Can't wait to try the peanut butter cup smores'.....
Yep, have done this and they are WONDERFUL! Enjoy....

RE: Gateway Laptop Fan / Hot
Tom N -- I really have three, also. The third is much smaller in size and sits off to the side of the two that are connected, as one unit.
I have a question, though....what is and where is the heat sink?

RE: Gateway Laptop Fan / Hot
:o I type with embarrassed, red face.............I think that I discovered and solved the problem.
If you remember, I mentioned that I had cleaned the fan area with canned air. Well, I did do that. What I had done was to take the outer covering off and directed the air toward the fans, etc. Yes, dust blew out. I thought that I was taking care of that.
Well, I just removed that cover again AND, this time, I unseated the fan(s) -- that's plural -- there are two of them, as one unit. I didn't remember that from before. This time, I could see there was major dust bunnies between the fan blades of one of the fans and the rear vent fins on the fan unit. I was able to remove it all with tweezers and there was a lot of it! I couldn't see it before since I didn't unseat the fan unit. :S
I put it back together and you guessed it -- it is working like it should. Woohoo............
I actually thought that I took good care with my laptop. I cannot believe how much dust debris that I removed today.
At any rate, as I typed before, thank you, all, for your thoughts and for sharing your knowledge. I do appreciate it.
Have a super Sunday!:B

RE: Gateway Laptop Fan / Hot
Thank you, again, for each response. I do appreciate it.
I am not using an inverter. I have before, but not on a regular basis.
Tom N -- Are you telling me that there should be two fans? I took the cover off a short time ago and cleaned with canned air. I think there was only one fan. I will take a look again.

RE: Gateway Laptop Fan / Hot
Thank you for the quick responses.
Good idea on the CPU usage. I will check that next time.
I did clean the fan area with canned air. There wasn't much there, but it is clean now anyway.
Please keep the responses coming. Again, thanks for these responses.

Gateway Laptop Fan / Hot
I have a Gateway laptop. System Properties indicates: Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz, 2.99 GHz, 512 MG of RAM, Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2. (I don't know if that information will help or not.....but, I post it just in case.)
Issue -- the fan runs a lot and is loud. Not like grinding noises or anything like that, like it is running in overdrive speed. The fan runs all of the time, from booting to shutdown.
I can have open Outlook, Internet Explorer, and maybe Yahoo Messenger. And, at times, everything goes in s-l-o-w motion and the fan kicks into overdrive. When this happens, the bottom of the laptop gets very hot. There is not an airflow problem, as in something blocking the vent on the bottom.
I can reboot and the fan will come on at the same loud, mach I speed. Then it finally slows down.
I ran spybot and it is clean. I also defragged and ran disk cleanup. Just thinking maybe something was causing the problem that these utilities could take care of.
My husband has a smaller laptop and that fan seems to run seldomly and is so quite. I think mine has a 17" monitor. I have the full 10-key pad directly to the right of the keyboard.
Would like to hear any comments and/or suggestions of what might be causing this and how/what to do to fix it. A question just came to mind, should the fan be sucking air in or out from the bottom? Maybe the fan was put in backwards at the factory? I have no idea....just pondering what it could be.
Please and thank you, in advance, for your time and expertise.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}
Dixie Flyer,
Have you considered a supplement to help with Fella's joints? I can't remember what I have read about that. There is a supplement called Cosequin. We have found this to be of great benefit.
Just a thought.

RE: Thoughts for our dog, please
I can remember my mother giving me cranberry juice when I was a youngster for a UTI. Would this be something that would be helpful in this situation, if given in moderation, of course? Just a thought. I know that other human remedies seem to be ok for fur-babies. Just wondering.....
